Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson voted in support of H.R. 3898, known as the Promoting Efficient Review for Modern Infrastructure Today (PERMIT) Act. The legislation is designed to streamline the permitting process under the Clean Water Act, aiming to reduce regulatory delays and litigation for infrastructure projects. The PERMIT Act combines 17 bills focused on making project reviews more efficient, consistent, and transparent.
The bill was sponsored by Representative Mike Collins of Georgia and passed in the House with a vote of 221-205. Simpson was also a cosponsor.
“Permitting reform is one of the most consequential actions Congress and the Trump Administration can take to unleash American energy and drive down costs,” said Rep. Simpson. “Republicans promised to provide regulatory certainty for farmers, energy producers, builders, and Americans nationwide. Cutting red tape and enacting commonsense permitting reform is the first step toward delivering that certainty. I have long supported streamlining the permitting process by making these reforms, and I’m confident that today’s passage of the PERMIT Act is a step in the right direction.”
Simpson has represented Idaho’s 2nd district in Congress since 1999 after previously serving in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998. He was born in Burley, Idaho in 1950 and currently lives in Idaho Falls.
