WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today met with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala in the U.S. Capitol.

“It was a pleasure to meet with Prime Minister Fiala in the U.S. Capitol today. The Czech Republic is an important NATO partner, and I appreciate its efforts to meet the commitment it made to spend 2% of its GDP on defense,” Senator Risch expressed during the meeting.

Senator Risch also highlighted the importance of collaboration between the United States and the Czech Republic in revitalizing NATO’s military strength and supporting Ukraine. He commended the Czech allies for their leadership in supplying ammunition to Ukraine, stating that it serves as an example to all nations.

“As the United States prepares to host the NATO summit in Washington this summer, I hope our countries will be able to work together to revitalize NATO’s military strength and support for Ukraine. The leadership our Czech allies have shown in creating a coalition to supply ammunition to Ukraine is an example to us all,” Senator Risch reiterated.

Furthermore, Senator Risch expressed gratitude towards the Czech Republic for its engagement with Taiwan and efforts to counter foreign influence from countries such as China and Russia.

“I am also grateful to the Czech Republic for its close engagement with Taiwan and efforts to counter both Chinese and Russian foreign influence within its borders,” Senator Risch concluded.
