Margaret Sass, a lecturer at the School for the Digital Future, spoke at the Online Learning Consortium Innovate 2026 Conference on March 3. Her presentation, titled “AI, Apps and Accountability: Redefining Teamwork for a Virtual World,” focused on changes in teamwork due to hybrid and remote work environments and how artificial intelligence is influencing collaboration and accountability.
During her session, Sass discussed questions about AI’s effects on productivity, critical thinking, and team effectiveness in digital workplaces. She drew from her experience teaching TEAM 303, a seven-week project-based course where students design workplace workshops while building skills such as communication, collaboration, adaptability, leadership, ethical reasoning, and digital fluency.
Sass said that generative AI can help with brainstorming, planning, and improving workflow efficiency. However, she stressed that effective digital teams still require clear roles, intentional communication, and human-centered accountability.
