U.S. Senator Jim Risch, the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued a statement after meeting with U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik. Stefanik has been nominated to serve as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations for the incoming Trump Administration.

Senator Risch expressed his support for Stefanik’s nomination, stating, “Congresswoman Stefanik is a good choice for the role of U.S. ambassador to the UN.” He highlighted several issues he believes need addressing within the UN system, including opposing decisions that favor adversaries like Iran and Russia and combating antisemitism.

Risch also emphasized the importance of Taiwan’s participation in the UN system and underscored that an ambassador should promote American leadership at the UN to safeguard U.S. interests and prevent misuse of taxpayer funds.

Risch concluded by saying he looks forward to collaborating with his colleagues on Stefanik’s nomination process.
