The House Committee on Appropriations has voted to advance the Fiscal Year 2026 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill. Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson expressed his support for this advancement, which focuses on investments in border security and public safety, aligning with the Trump administration’s policy initiatives.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, we have the most secure border in American history,” said Rep. Simpson. “Now is the time to strengthen our border protections and provide our brave Border Patrol agents with the resources they need to keep our homeland safe. I have long maintained that border security is national security, and supporting this advancement reaffirms that commitment.”

Key elements of the bill include:

– Realigning the Department of Homeland Security’s priorities around its core mission of defending against threats from terrorists, criminals, and foreign adversaries while ensuring safety for all Americans.
– Prioritizing border security along with the detention and swift removal of criminal aliens.
– Enhancing resources to detect and counteract the spread of fentanyl.
– Strengthening investigations into child exploitation.
– Prohibiting funding for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Critical Race Theory.
– Banning gender-affirming care such as hormone therapy and surgery for ICE detainees.

The committee approved the measure with a vote of 36 to 27. The funding package will now proceed to the full floor of the House of Representatives for further consideration.
