Mountain West issued the following announcement on March 2.
San Diego State senior Joe Tyler has been named Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Utah State’s Sergi Mico Fenollar is the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week. Aggies’ senior Carolina Millan has collected MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week recognition. There was no selection for MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.
It’s the second career MW weekly awards for Tyler and first for Mico Fenollar and Millan.
MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JOE TYLER, SAN DIEGO STATE
Senior, Corby, England
Helped San Diego State to a 1-1 record on the week, with a win over Pomona-Pitzer (6-1) and a loss to Gonzaga.
Went a combined 4-0 in the top position in both singles and doubles play.
Teamed with Alexander Mandma, downing Bulldogs pair Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingsworth 6-3.
Improved his overall record to 12-5.
MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
SERGI MICO FENOLLAR, UTAH STATE
Freshman, Cocentaina, Spain
Went 3-1 in singles and doubles play in Utah State’s two contests.
Earned wins against Rice's Karol Paluch (6-4, 6-4) and New Mexico's Alex Maggs (6-3, 6-4).
Finished 2-1 in doubles play, alongside Felipe Acosta, earning victories over Montana State and New Mexico.
WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CAROLINA MILLAN, UTAH STATE
Junior, Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico
Helped Utah State to a 2-0 record on the week, with wins over Montana and Portland.
Went an unflawed 4-0 in doubles and singles play.
Both singles wins came in straight sets.
