Shaheen and Risch reveal new Senate Foreign Relations Committee subcommittees

U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Jim Risch have announced the subcommittee assignments for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC) in the 119th Congress. Senator Shaheen, a Democrat from New Hampshire, serves as the Ranking Member, while Senator Risch, a Republican from Idaho, is the Chairman of the committee.

Senator Shaheen expressed her anticipation for collaboration with subcommittee chairs and ranking members to tackle global challenges. "Each of our subcommittees will play a critical role in strengthening America’s leadership and advancing U.S. foreign policy," she stated.

Chairman Risch highlighted the diverse interests represented within the committee but emphasized their shared dedication to national interests. "From China to Russia and Iran to North Korea, America faces many threats," he said.

The SFRC's subcommittees cover various global regions and issues:

1. The Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women's Issues will be chaired by John Curtis (R-UT), with Tim Kaine (D-VA) serving as Ranking Member.

2. Steve Daines (R-MT) will chair the Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation, while Chris Murphy (D-CT) takes on the role of Ranking Member.

3. Pete Ricketts (R-NE) leads the Subcommittee on East Asia, The Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy; Chris Coons (D-DE) is Ranking Member.

4. The Subcommittee on Near East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counterterrorism will be chaired by Dave McCormick (R-PA), with Jacky Rosen (D-NV) as Ranking Member.

5. Ted Cruz (R-TX) chairs the Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health Policy; Cory Booker (D-NJ) is Ranking Member.

6. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) heads the Subcommittee on State Department and USAID Management; Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) is Ranking Member.

7. Finally, Mike Lee (R-UT) chairs the Subcommittee on Multilateral International Development; Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) serves as Ranking Member.

These subcommittees are tasked with addressing various international issues ranging from regional security cooperation to international cybersecurity policy and global health matters.
