Two graduate students from the history program, Emma Taggart and Tim Griffith, appeared on Idaho Matters, the midday news show of Boise State Public Radio, as part of the America250: Short Histories of Boise series. The series is a collaboration between Boise State Public Radio and Boise City Arts and History to mark America’s 250th anniversary with a focus on local stories from Boise.
Taggart and Griffith spent the fall 2025 semester gathering short accounts about Boise’s past. Their research included personal recollections, such as an account of high school students who learned about the Pearl Harbor attack while skiing at Bogus Basin.
“A lot of our history isn’t just from history books or archives,” Taggart said on the podcast. “It’s from people talking to each other.”
Idaho Matters will feature a new story from this project every Monday. The first installment, published in March 2026, looked into the history of Chinden Boulevard and highlighted experiences of Chinese immigrants in Boise.
The America250: Short Histories of Boise project aims to bring forward lesser-known local histories as part of the national anniversary celebration.
