Boise State gymnast Sydnie Whipple was named Mountain West Co-Freshman of the Week, according to a March 10 announcement from the conference. Whipple achieved a career-high score of 9.875 on beam during the Broncos’ dual meet at No. 10 California, helping her team reach a season-high score of 49.150 on that apparatus. The Broncos finished with a team total of 195.925, their second-best score this year.
This recognition marks Whipple’s first weekly conference award in her collegiate career. She is from Meridian, Idaho, and becomes the second Boise State gymnast to receive the Mountain West Freshman of the Week honor this season, following two-time honoree Miraya Nero. It is also the first time that multiple Boise State gymnasts have earned this distinction in one season.
With Whipple’s award, Boise State gymnasts have now collected six weekly accolades among four athletes this year. In addition to Nero’s honors on beam, fifth-year gymnast Blake Pascal has been recognized as Specialist of the Week for floor exercise, and sophomore Kristina Shchennikova has received Specialist of the Week for beam.
Looking ahead, Whipple and her teammates will compete twice over the upcoming weekend: they will host Southern Utah for Senior Night on March 13 at 6 p.m., then travel to face No. 10 Stanford on March 15 at 3 p.m. Mountain Time. Boise State is also set to host the 2026 Mountain West Championships at ExtraMile Arena on March 21 at 6 p.m.
