TechHelp, Idaho’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership Center, announced on Mar. 25 that it has received a cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology. The award will allow TechHelp to continue providing technical assistance and workforce development services to manufacturers across the state.
The support is intended to strengthen competitiveness and drive innovation within Idaho’s manufacturing sector. TechHelp works with food manufacturers in areas such as quality improvement and navigating certifications like HACCP and USDA requirements.
“This award reflects the strength of Idaho’s manufacturing ecosystem and the dedicated professionals who support it,” said Robert Buel, interim director of TechHelp. “Through our partnership with the National Institute of Standards and Technology and our university collaborators, TechHelp will continue providing high-value services that help Idaho manufacturers grow, compete, and succeed.”
Buel also addressed a recent leadership change at TechHelp following Brad McDonald’s departure as director. Buel has assumed the role of interim director effective immediately. “Continuity is our priority,” Buel said. “Our clients, partners, and university stakeholders can expect the same level of commitment, service, and strategic alignment that has defined TechHelp’s work across the state.”
TechHelp operates in partnership with Boise State University, Idaho State University, the University of Idaho, and the Idaho Manufacturing Alliance. These collaborations leverage university expertise for technical solutions while offering students applied learning opportunities through programs such as studioBlu.
With 17 years at TechHelp—including extensive experience working with partner universities—Buel brings institutional knowledge to his new role guiding TechHelp through its next phase.
