Terrence Brown has been appointed as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for Boise State Broncos Men’s Football, according to an announcement by head coach Spencer Danielson.

Brown arrives at Boise State after four years at the University of California (Cal), where he was promoted to co-defensive coordinator before the 2025 season. He previously served as Cal’s defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator for three seasons.

“Coach Brown is an elite football mind, and we’re pumped to add him to the staff,” Danielson said. “He has a proven track record of developing defensive backs and has produced NFL-level players. He’s a great connector and another person who does a great job caring about the guys and developing them as young men.”

Brown expressed appreciation for his new role. “My family and I are extremely grateful for this opportunity,” Brown said. “I am excited to join the rich history and tradition of Boise State Football. I can’t wait to work with Coach Danielson and the rest of the staff to continue to build on the family atmosphere and culture the program exhibits. I am excited to get to work.”

At Cal, Brown helped improve defensive performance significantly. In his first year as co-defensive coordinator, Cal ranked fourth in the ACC in passing yards allowed, giving up 205.2 yards per game. The Golden Bears led their conference in 2024 with only 290 points allowed, finished third in yards per game (337.5), and were among two teams allowing less than five yards per play that season.

In 2023, Cal recovered 16 fumbles—the most in the nation—and shared first place nationally with a +28 turnover margin. The team scored three defensive touchdowns that year, ranking second in their conference and fifteenth nationally; their twelve interceptions tied for third in-conference.

During his time at Cal, Brown coached several standout players including All-Americans Hezekiah Masses and Nohl Williams. Other players such as Brent Austin, Daniel Scott, Craig Woodson (twice), Williams, and former Bronco Jeremiah Earby also received recognition under his guidance.

Before joining Cal’s staff, Brown spent two seasons at Washington as assistant defensive backs coach (2020-21), where he coached four future NFL draft picks: Kyler Gordon (Chicago), Trent McDuffie (Kansas City), Elijah Molden (Tennessee), and Keith Taylor Jr. (Kansas City).

Previously at Vanderbilt from 2018-19 as cornerbacks coach, Brown helped lead the Commodores to a Texas Bowl appearance during his first season—their best record in eight years—and coached Joejuan Williams, selected in round two of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Brown started his FBS coaching career as a graduate assistant at Washington from 2015-17 where he worked with All-Americans Budda Baker and Sidney Jones—both later drafted into the NFL along with several others including Kevin King, Jordan Miller, Byron Murphy, Taylor Rapp, Keith Taylor Jr., and Zeke Turner.

As a player himself at Stanford between 2009-12, Brown started all games during his final two seasons out of four total years—accumulating 113 tackles overall along with other notable stats.
