U.S. Senators Jim Risch, Ben Cardin, Ted Budd, Joni Ernst, Chris Coons, Jacky Rosen, Richard Blumenthal, and Thom Tillis have issued a joint statement regarding the bilateral relations between the United States and Qatar and the efforts to mediate the release of hostages taken by Hamas.

In their statement, the Senators emphasized the importance of the relationship between the United States and Qatar, particularly in light of recent events involving the holding of hostages by Hamas. They commended Qatar for its efforts in mediating the release of hostages but urged the country to intensify its efforts to secure the immediate release of all individuals taken by Hamas in the October 7 attack.

The Senators made it clear that if Hamas refuses to engage in reasonable negotiations, Qatar should reconsider its support for the organization. They stressed the need for like-minded nations to collaborate in denying terrorist organizations such as Hamas the financial support and safe havens that enable them to operate.

Highlighting Qatar’s role as a crucial partner in maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East, the Senators expressed their anticipation for even stronger cooperation in the years to come.

The joint statement underlines the Senators’ commitment to ensuring the safe return of all hostages and their dedication to fostering a secure and stable environment in the region through collaborative efforts.
