Covenant Presbyterian Church issued the following announcement on May 10.
The City of Boise is working to keep people in their homes. City Council approved directing another $6.5 million in federal rental assistance to Boiseans at this afternoon’s meeting.
“Thanks to the partnership we forged with Boise City Ada County Housing Authority, we’ve already provided $15 million in federal rental assistance to over 3,200 households. Those aren’t numbers, those are working families who were able to stay in their homes. Now, we can do even more,” said Boise Mayor Lauren McLean. “As we move out of this pandemic, people still need help with their rent. This money means we can keep giving them that help through the end of this year.”
These funds are available through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program and will be directed to families in Boise making 80% or below the average income for the area.
“The partnership with the Boise City Ada County Housing Authority has been very successful in helping Boise households use the money that was available to them to stay in their housing during these twin crises. Due to the dedication of the staff of both organizations, we have helped more families than the whole state combined,” said City Council President Elaine Clegg. “I am happy to be able to offer even more support to those who still need this assistance.”
A Home for Everyone:
The City of Boise is working with residents to find solutions to the housing crisis and create a home for everyone. We are investing in the creation of new housing by seeking opportunities to develop affordable homes on city-owned land, helping to bridge the gap in financing for affordable projects, updating the zoning code to increase and diversify the housing supply, easing impact fees for affordable developments, and using innovative pilot programs to explore possible solutions like tiny homes and ADU’s (accessory dwelling units). Finally, we are housing the unhoused by creating supportive housing in partnership with Our Path Home, the 40+ agency partnership working to end homelessness in Ada County.
