WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) have released a statement regarding the Senate's recent passage of the national security supplemental funding package. The senators emphasize their commitment to the safety and security of Idaho and the United States, stating that their "first and primary responsibility as senators is the safety and security of Idaho and the United States of America."

In their statement, Risch and Crapo highlight the importance of a strong national defense and the need for capable and equipped allies. They stress the significance of defending Israel, prohibiting funding for the antisemitic UN Relief and Works Agency, countering the advancement of China, and preventing Russia from expanding its adversarial empire once again.

The senators express concern about the state of military manufacturing capabilities and the dangerously low levels of American weapon systems due to conflicts around the world. They explain that the supplemental funding package aims to address these issues by re-energizing military manufacturing capabilities and replenishing weapon systems.

Furthermore, Risch and Crapo emphasize the importance of investing in America's energy independence through nuclear research. They also highlight the need for tools to combat the illicit global drug trade, particularly fentanyl, which poses a significant threat to lives in Idaho and across the country.

While acknowledging that the United States cannot be the "policeman of the world" or engage in every conflict, the senators assert the importance of supporting allies who will stand with the United States during these dangerous times. They acknowledge that although the legislation may not align precisely with their own draft, it is a strong bill that enhances the safety of Idaho and America.

In conclusion, Senators Risch and Crapo affirm their commitment to the safety and security of Idaho and the United States. They state, "This package re-energizes some of our military manufacturing capabilities which have fallen woefully behind, and replenishes American weapon systems which have become dangerously low due to conflicts around the world. Further, it makes important investments in America’s energy independence through nuclear research and provides tools to interrupt the illicit global drug trade, like hampering the profits made by selling fentanyl, which will save lives in Idaho and across the country. The United States cannot be the policeman of the world, nor can we engage in every conflict, which is why we must support allies who will stand with us in what is a very dangerous time globally. Although this legislation is not what we would have drafted, it is a strong bill that makes Idaho and America safer – our first responsibility."
