Washington - A bipartisan resolution recognizing the strength and significance of the U.S.-Japan alliance has been introduced by U.S. Senators Jim Risch and Ben Cardin, among others, in anticipation of Japanese Prime Minister Kishida's official state visit to Washington this week.

Ranking Member Risch emphasized Japan's leadership and support for Ukraine, stating, “Japan is a leader in the world and a strong and steadfast ally of the United States. Japan’s support for Ukraine under Prime Minister Kishida shows its willingness to step up as we face a difficult geopolitical environment.”

Chair Cardin echoed the sentiment, highlighting the unwavering nature of the alliance, saying, “Our alliance with Japan is ironclad, and we have never been more strategically aligned with our friends in Tokyo than we are today.”

The resolution celebrates the deepening ties between the two nations and emphasizes the role of the U.S.-Japan alliance in promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, as expressed by Senator Chris Van Hollen: “Built upon shared democratic values, the decades-long U.S.-Japan alliance has not only deepened the economic, security, cultural, and people-to-people ties between our two nations – it has also been a positive force for stability in the Indo-Pacific.”

Senator Mitt Romney stressed the importance of the alliance in maintaining peace in the Indo-Pacific amidst growing military aggression, stating, “Our alliance with Japan is fundamental to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.”

Senator Mazie Hirono highlighted the critical nature of the alliance in times of global instability, stating, “At a time of global instability, the alliance between the United States and Japan is critical.”

Senator Bill Hagerty, drawing on his experience as a former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, emphasized the strategic significance of the U.S.-Japan Alliance in securing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.

The bipartisan resolution reaffirms commitments to Japan, celebrates historic milestones, and encourages continued cooperation between the United States, Japan, and other partners to address shared challenges in the region.
