WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, expressed his enthusiasm in welcoming four new interns for the spring term. Senator Risch stated, "I’m glad to welcome four exceptional interns for the spring term," acknowledging the significance of the interns' roles in understanding and addressing complex global issues faced by the Senate, including conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and threats posed by countries like China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran.
The interns joining the Senate Foreign Relations Committee this spring bring a diverse set of skills and interests. Keeley Cross, a student from Boise, Idaho, graduating from Boise State University, aspires to pursue a career in foreign policy and public service with a focus on global women’s issues, international development, and human rights.
Samantha Mendonca DeCosta, a junior from Lodi, Calif., attending the University of California, Berkeley, aims to run for public office in the future. Her interests lie in issues concerning the Indo-Pacific region, with a specific focus on China and North Korea, along with a keen interest in political psychology and religious politics.
Vivian Eleanor Turnbull, hailing from San Pedro, Calif., transitioned from Los Angeles Harbor College to Hillsdale College and is passionate about veteran affairs. She is considering a career in speechwriting or constituent services and hopes to concentrate on U.S. and U.K. relations, foreign assistance, and Taiwan regional matters during her internship.
Krystal Tan, a student from Rockwall, Texas, attending Baylor University, is particularly interested in Taiwan, China, and Israel-related issues. With ambitions of working in foreign policy, Krystal sees herself as a potential international litigator addressing global disputes in the future.
