U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met with Kenyan President William Ruto at the U.S. Capitol on May 22, 2024.
“It was a pleasure to welcome President Ruto to the U.S. Capitol yesterday. Kenya is an important security and trade partner in Africa, and its commitment to democracy is vital in a region that already faces many challenges,” stated Senator Risch.
Risch emphasized the importance of addressing corruption and economic issues within Kenya's government for ensuring long-term democratic stability. “In order to ensure long-term democratic stability in Kenya, President Ruto must focus on tackling serious corruption and economic issues within his government. By tackling these and other issues, and securing Kenya’s long-term stability, our countries will be able to further promote trade, investment, security cooperation, and conservation,” he added.
