UPDATE: BPD investigators looking for witnesses following fatal vehicle vs pedestrian

On June 2nd Boise Police responded to a fatal vehicle vs pedestrian incident on W. Poplar and N. Cole Rd. As part of the ongoing investigation, Boise Police detectives are looking for the driver or passengers of a dark-colored sedan that was seen traveling west on Poplar towards Cole at the time of the incident. The sedan was seen traveling directly behind the suspect’s vehicle when the victims were struck and investigators believe the occupants may have witnessed the incident.

Arrested: Marion Nikichimus, 23, Boise

Charges: 2nd-degree Murder (F), Aggravated Battery (F)

Around 9:15 pm on Friday, June 2, 2023, Boise Police responded to W. Poplar St. and N. Cole Rd. for a report of a person hit by a vehicle.  Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and located two victims. They immediately began providing life-saving care until Ada County Paramedics arrived and took over. The adult female victim was rushed to a local hospital where sadly she was pronounced deceased.  The adult male victim was treated on scene.

Officers conducted a preliminary investigation and BPD’s Violent Crime detectives and Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene.  The investigation showed that there was an altercation between the suspect, Marion Nikichimus, and some individuals on W. Poplar St. east of Cole Road.  Evidence showed the suspect used his vehicle to intentionally strike the two victims.  Officers located the suspect and the vehicle a short distance away and the suspect was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on the listed charges. The investigation is ongoing.
